On Friday, 6 February 2026, the German Consulate in Lagos, led by Deputy Consul General Gerald Wolf, received a delegation from the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and the Pan-African Film Development Foundation to formally engage on creative collaboration between Nigeria and Germany.
The meeting was convened primarily to discuss the Nigeria–Germany Film Week, scheduled to hold in Berlin in June 2026. The event is designed as a strategic cultural and industry platform to deepen bilateral cooperation through film, creative exchange, technology, and co-production opportunities between both countries.
Founder of the Pan-African Film Development Foundation and CEO of the Nollywood Travel Film Festival, Mykel Parish, presented the vision for the Berlin Film Week as a showcase of Nigerian creativity across film and allied creative expressions, aimed at strengthening cultural diplomacy and global audience engagement.
Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji also underscored the importance of cultural exchange, noting plans to reflect the evolving Nigeria-Germany relationship in a forthcoming film project.
Speaking on behalf of the Guild, DGN President Uche Agbo emphasized that the engagement represents a broader commitment to positioning Nigerian filmmakers as active partners in the global film ecosystem, beyond participation to leadership and convening power.
Deputy Consul General Gerald Wolf welcomed the initiative, commended Nollywood’s growth, and expressed interest in supporting collaborative efforts between German institutions, the DGN, and the Pan-African Film Development Foundation.
Also present were Perekeme Odon (DGN National Secretary), Betsy Ikeme (Chief of Staff to the DGN President), Jennifer Obhiebo (Festival Manager, Nollywood Travel Film Festival), and partners Opeyemi Oyedokun and Muritala Odesesan.
